You are part of the fabric of our lives - remembered always with the greatest admiration, respect and affection.

Sir Tom, that's what we always knew you as. You made us proud to be Prestonians. Lucky enough to see you play and to meet you on several occasions, a true gentleman and a footballing legend. I'm sure the City will give you a fitting farewell, a very sad day indeed. Thank you Sir Tom, you will always be in our hearts.

Unfortunately I never saw Sir Tom play a competitive game but I will not forget standing on the touchlines aged 8 or 9 when he played in a charity match at the Springfields Sports Ground in the mid-60's -- the nearest my father ( a proud Prestonian ) has ever been to any football match. Even at that age I was well aware of the footballing status of Sir Tom -- it was only in later life that I understood all the other qualities which made him such a gentleman and Preston legend. We will never see his like again.

I did not see him play but my dad said he was the best ever and that will do for me. He was part of an age when men had great dignity and standards without the need for material possessions. A great man.
