Thanks for all the wonderful memories. I will never see a better player.
You were also totally modest and such a true gentleman.

What a fantastic tribute that so many people, myself included have shed a tear at the passing of a man they never actually met. I envy those of you who did meet him and were able to shake his hand. RIP. Jim.

Sir Tom,

I was not lucky enough to ever see you play, but the spirit in which you lived life and played the game I love should forever hold the club we both love together, and separate from some others. In a time when there is so much money that it can dilute the pride and passion that you displayed both for North End and for England, many of todays players would do well to look at videos of the way you played. A true gent on and off the pitch, I was lucky enough to meet you at an awards ceremony when I was much younger, and you inspired me to play the game in the right spirit.

R.I.P. Sir Tom, the number 7 shirt in Heaven's XI has been waiting for it's rightful owner. It waits no more...

A truly magnificent footballer and a special person. We are privileged to have witnessed such greatness. R.I.P.

My Hero
My childhood youth and teens

Are filled with memories of football scenes

It always took the chill away
When we saw Tom Finney play

He was the best l ever saw play live
Though often tripped he'd never dive
It was not done
Though games were rough
Our heroes then
Were of sterner stuff
When we saw Tom Finney play
They tried all methods fair and foul
To try to stop this gentleman
Though often kicked and tackled late
He never did retaliate
When we saw Tom Finney play
Though Roonie's skill is more than ample
He'll nare be fit Tom's boots to clean
Till he shows kids the same example
His foul mouthed posturing was never seen
She we saw Tom Finney play

Sir Tom your name will live forever, not only in Preston, but wherever football is played. The word 'legend', so often misused, can be applied to you, for that is what you are. Moreover you were a man of simplicity, humility and generosity of spirit. May you rest in peace.
