Tom Finney was the first footballer I knew the name of. As a little girl my granddad, a lifelong Liverpool supporter, would tell me that Tom Finney was the greatest footballer he had ever seen and how he would sometimes go to watch Preston, just to see him play! I too love football and shed a tear when I heard of his passing.
You only had to look at Sir Tom to know he was a kind man and a true gentleman.
Rest in Peace

The man and the Team that changed my life. A lifelong Preston North End fan, I came to live in Preston from Derry in 1960 to watch Tom Finney play. My Sons and Grandsons now watch Preston North End. The greatest player ever and the perfect gentleman both on and off the field. God Bless you Sir Tom.

My mum was an avid supporter of PNE and Sir Tom Finney was her idol. He was a regular topic of conversation as I was growing up. I had the privilege to meet Sir Tom and his wife Lady Elsie when I cared for her in Royal Preston Hospital. It was an honour for me to have done so. My overwhelming memory was what a true gentleman and lady they were and how much they loved each other. RIP with Elsie.

Sir Tom

I had the utmost pleasure of meeting you Sir Tom at your home with my son over 10 years ago, you kindly gave us your time to sign your book and my son's PNE shirt which now hangs proudly in his bedroom to this day. It is a day we shall forever treasure. Thankyou.

You will forever be remembered as a true legend of this proud city and we will never forget what you did both on and off the field.

Shankly said you were the best ever- that is all you need to say.

RIP Sir Tom.

I will always remember watching you play your last few games at Deepdale when I was about 12 years old. You were such an inspiration and I cannot help judging all others players against your standards of skill, teamwork and gentlemanly conduct. If all modern players were like you, the game would benefit so much. R.I.P.
